Dr. Satyavani is an Ayurvedic health practitioner, a Yoga Acharya (spiritual teacher) and a spiritual coach in the Shaivist tradition of Swami Kripalu. The name Satyavani means “speaker of truth” and was given to her by her teachers as part of the Acharya Path of Love in the tradition of Lord Lakulish, the 28th incarnation of Lord Shiva.
Her signature program, The Ayurvedic Woman, reconnects women to their divine feminine power through Ayurveda, yoga, spiritual practice and activism so they may remember who they are, what their life’s purpose is and how they can manifest that purpose into the world.
She is the co-founder of the ZenSpot Institute for Vedic + Taoist Studies with her husband Dr. + Taoist Priest Michael Bittner. Together they oversee the facility’s training programs and wellness center that offers both educational training and services in Traditional Indian Medicine (TIM/Ayurveda), Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and modern science. She also has the privilege of serving as the founding President of the National Ayurvedic Practitioners Association (NAPA).
Dr. Satyavani earned a doctorate in Educational Organization and Leadership with a concentration in critical hermeneutic theory from the University of San Francisco; an MA in humanities from Teachers College, Columbia University; an MSEd in educational administration and supervision from Pace University; a Principal and Superintendent’s credential from the State of New York and a BS in history and secondary education from New York University.
Her education in Ayurveda includes her practitioner certification from New World Ayurveda under the direction of Paul Dugliss, MD and an advanced credential from the Kerala Academy in Kerala, India. Currently she is working on her Ay.D at the California College of Ayurveda.
Dr. Satyavani has held posts in K-12 schools as a researcher and accountability administrator, assistant principal and classroom teacher of social studies on the secondary level. She also spent over a decade in academia where she served as adjunct faculty and department director in child & adolescent development for the Marian Wright Edelman Institute at San Francisco State University as well as held several deanships in adult and continuing education.
Dr. Satyavani is certified as a yoga teacher from The Kripalu Schools of Yoga & Ayurveda and her spiritual life coaching training is approved by the International Coach Federation (ICF). She has an advanced credential in the teaching of Yoga Nidra under Yogashwara Kamini Desai. She is the author, with her husband, of two yoga DVDs, several online courses and a meditation CD for both beginner and advanced practitioners. Her international podcast, The Ayurvedic Woman, discusses all things Ayurveda, Yoga and Spiritual practice for women for the purposes of living a dharmic life inside and out.
